Tuesday night, we presented our Altair project to the La Jolla Development Permit Committee. For anyone not versed in the development process, this is an advisory committee to the full La Jolla Community Planning Group which make recommendations to board on all projects in La Jolla.

After making some revisions to the project based on the concerns of the Committee at our first presentation, we confidently presented the project that both meet the Municipal code’s requirements & responded appropriately to the La Jolla Community Plan. This being said, we were extremely happy to receive a unanimous approval from the group!
This certainly isnt the final step in the process, we still have the full La Jolla Community Planning Group to pass through – but its a very positive step for a challenging project in a very passionately debated piece of San Diego real estate.
This project was originally designed by good friend & mentor Matthew Cumming in 2008. Both Ivan & I were involved throughout the design working & reworking internal space planning & external massing & elevations with Matthew until his departure in 2009 back to Australia. At that point Funkitecture Studio was officially engaged to complete entitlement approval for the client. Since then, we have been working with a great team of City officials & consultants to complete the City of San Diego’s internal approval process. We would just like to acknowledge the efforts of the great design team working with us on Altair:
- Matthew Cumming
- Dan Stricker – City of San Diego Project Manager
- Diane Murbach – City of San Diego Project Manager @ www.sandiego.gov
- David McCullough – McCullough Landscape Architects @ www.mlasd.com
- Bill Snipes – Snipes Dye Associates Civil Engineering @ www.snipesdye.com
- Kevin Dougherty – SeaSide Realty Group in PB @ www.kevindougherty.com
